New York Islanders coach Jack Capuano seems to give the tough love to 23 year old Ryan Strome. It’s not working so why does it keep happening?

Ryan Strome has not been the same player since his 2014-2015 season. Although, one thing has remained a constant over that span, Jack Capuano‘s tough love.

This was pointed out in one of Arthur Staple‘s recent articles. He brings up a good point, Jack Capuano does love to publicly call out Strome.

The first time it happened was before the 2014 season, when Strome had a mediocre camp. Capuano said the then 21 year old was in danger of not making the team.

Well, he ended up making the team and had an impressive season putting up 50 points. Since then he’s rapidly declined. Last year he got a three week vacation to Bridgeport courtesy of Jack Capuano.

Now this year, Strome’s the only “veteran” who will get healthy scratched when things start going wrong. It really seems like Strome is Cappy’s scapegoat. This worries me with other Islanders prospects on the cusp.

Mathew Barzal, Josh Ho-Sang, Michael Dal Colle, Ryan Pulock, Kieffer Bellows, etc. are all talented young prospects. Will they get the same treatment from this coach? Will he ruin them too? It’s a question worth asking along with why he’s still here in the first place.
