The New York Islanders are about to embark on a nine-game road trip. As a team that’s struggled on the road, they have some work to do.

It’s no secret that the New York Islanders have steadied the ship and are back in the mix for the playoffs. The one thing, in particular, they have to work on is figuring out how to win away from the friendly confines of the Barclays Center.

The Isles have lost three in a row on the road, one of which was an embarrassing 7-1 loss in Toronto. Under new head coach Doug Weight they are just 1-4-0.

While the Isles have points in 11 straight home games, which is impressive in itself, it will be important for this team to figure out their road issues in order to keep pace with the rest of the Eastern Conference.

Weight joked saying he wanted the team to wear the blue on the road. Not a bad idea, but he’ll likely have to settle for changing up the lines or defensive pairings.

Ultimately it looks like it’s the defense that’s been an issue on the road, they’ve looked sloppy. Maybe swapping the pairings could make a change. It’s worth a shot because right now the Isles are tied for the lowest points on the road.

If the Isles want to make the playoffs they’ll have to start winning on the road. That’s a fact.
