Isles News and Links 9/15/2015: Is Brock Nelson On His Way Out?
Need your daily dose of all-things Islanders? We’ve got everything here covered from around the Internet and the ever-growing Twitter-sphere. As we prepare for the start of a new era in Brooklyn, keep it here on Eyes on Isles for the latest news and reaction about everything Islanders.
Brock Nelson’s Agent and New York Islanders Not Talking
Brock Nelson’s agent Ron Salcer told Newsday’s Arthur Staple that he has not spoken to Islanders GM Grth Snow for six weeks. This is pretty ridiculous if you think about it. Hwever, Staple reinterated owner Charles Wang’s controversial deadline for resigning free agents. As many Islanders fans know, if GM Garth Snow does not sign a free agent by training camp, then the sit the season. One can only hope he has changed his stance because the chances of signing Nelson by training camp are becoming more and more dimmer as each day passes. It was great to get Steve Bernier on board to tryout in camp, but hopefully this is not true…
Nelson is not the only restricted free agent still holding out in the NHL. Here is a quick look at some others:
Jonathan Huberdeau- Had a semi-breakout season with the Panthers, but will still get a bridge contract. They will likely come to terms on a 2-year, $6- million deal.
Stefan Elliott- Along with Freddie Hamilton, the Avalanche need to sign these young players. They probably want one-way contracts.
Jaro Halak Gets New Pads For Upcoming Season
The New York Islanders tweeted a nice pic of Jaro Halak’s new pair of pads for the upcoming season. A nice original look. I would like to see these on him with full gear with that new third jersey that still has not been officially released.
Just for a clarification, the “B” letter on the pads stands for Brian, which is the company that makes hockey pads. Many fans might get confused that it means Brooklyn. But who knows, maybe Halak wants to let the “B” have a double meaning.
