Need your daily dose of all-things Islanders? We’ve got everything here covered from around the Internet and the ever-growing Twitter-sphere. As we prepare for the start of a new era in Brooklyn, keep it here on Eyes on Isles for the latest news and reaction about everything Islanders.
Islanders Finally Unveil Third Jersey
We knew that the Islanders were probably going to change their third jerseys for the upcoming season to honour Brooklyn, but we did not expect them to go so bold. Some leaked pictures emerged of the all-black jersey (the same color as the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets), but many fans were skeptic. How would it look on a player on the ice? Is it too much of a change? Why is it so simple?
Well, fans finally saw John Tavares in the new third jersey today:
Some quick notes about the new jersey itself:
- The four white lines on the arm pay tribute to the Islanders’ dynasty of the early 80s.
- An “AL” patch on the right shoulder commemorating the great Al Arbour will be worn. It will also be placed on regular home and away jerseys.
- “B” logos are on the bottom of the jersey to help connect to Brooklyn fans
- The “NY” logo on the jersey was the same logo the Islanders used in the 2014 Stadium Series

Reaction Pours In On New Jersey
Like every Islanders third jersey that has ever existed, this one comes with mixed feelings. Reviews are polarized. Let’s take a look at some reaction on Twitter:
Even the Islanders’ new roomates got in on the action:
Personally, I was pleasantly surprised by the jersey. It looks very simple, but actually has a lot of meaningful elements in it that stay true to the team’s rich history. I am not a fan of black jerseys, which is holding me back from loving it, but it is probably one of the team’s better third jerseys they have had.
