Anders Lee got off to an embarrassingly slow start for the New York Islanders this year. But he’s parlayed that slow start into an impressive 30 goal season.
With two more goals against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday Anders Lee secured his first 30 goal season of his NHL career. Although it didn’t seem like he’d come anywhere close after his rough start.
Through the first 18 games of the year, Lee had just one goal. Yep that’s right, just one. Since then he’s been playing at a pace of a 40 goal season.
That’s how Lee has caught up so much ground. The question becomes what is the real Anders Lee. Is he this scoring machine or is this just a mere fluke?

I don’t think we’ll ever see Lee put up a 40 goal season, hey I could be wrong, but I just don’t think that’s realistic expectations for him.
Lee seems much more like someone who will fall in the 25-30 goal range like he did in his rookie year. He definitely isn’t the product he put out on the ice last year, but I don’t believe he’s a 40 goal season pace player either.
He’s a beyond productive power forward, and can definitely be a part of a very solid top line in 2017-2018 (I’m hoping it’s 27-91-66). This probably won’t be his only 30 goal season, but don’t hold your breath expecting much more than whatever his goal total at the end of this year is. In all likelihood, this is probably the best Lee that we will ever see.
