The former New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy thinks the team should trade their superstar captain in a blockbuster deal.

This summer is going to be a big one for the New York Islanders. The two main focuses are the arena situation and extending John Tavares. Although former Isles legend Mike Bossy has different ideas when it comes to the star captain.

He thinks that they should trade the 26-year old to the Montreal Canadiens. What did he want in return? How does Alex Galchenyuk, Mikhail Sergachev, goaltender Charlie Lindgren and this year’s first round pick sound?

For reference, Alex Galchenyuk is 23-years old and put up 44 points in 61 games last year with Montreal. He eclipsed the 20 goal mark just twice in his five-year career so far.

More from Rumors

Mikhail Sergachov was the number nine overall selection in last year’s draft. He put up 33 points in 50 games with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. Goalie Charlie Lindgren is 23-years old and has played just three games in the NHL (with Carey Price in Montreal don’t expect that number to increase anytime soon).

Is that a boatload for one player? Yes, absolutely it is, there would be a lot of potential coming the way of the New York Islanders. Although, they can’t afford to trade John Tavares.

I know, if they can’t sign him I guess they will have to but picturing John Tavares not on the Islanders is near impossible. The Isles drafted him number one overall back in 2009 to be the savior of the franchise. There’s no scenario where trading Tavares would be a good thing, so don’t suggest it.

It’s not his fault that the General Manager hasn’t given him enough pieces to succeed. Now, Tavares has said a million times that he wants to stay with the team. Hopefully, that’s really true and if he extends then it’s up to the Islanders to put a winning team around him.

And for Mike Bossy. We love you, but for the love of God please don’t suggest trading the best thing to happen to the Islanders in the last 25 years.
