The New York Islanders had a scout at the Bruins and Rangers game last night. Is a trade coming or are they just doing due diligence?

Last night, Arthur Staple tweeted out that the New York Islanders had scouts at Madison Square Garden. Naturally, the speculation began that the Islanders and Rangers are talking trades, based off the scout being in attendance.

I hate to be the killjoy but just because a scout or two is in attendance doesn’t mean a trade is coming necessarily. Yes, the Rangers are going to be sellers but would they even be willing to trade with the Islanders?

A trade for a Mats Zuccarello or Kevin Hayes could be exactly what the Islanders need, do the Rangers want to help their cross-town rival get over the top for a playoff run? Absolutely not.

It’s hard enough for the Rangers fans to watch their team struggle in year one of the rebuild, imagine the salt in the wound that a trade between the Rangers and Islanders would provide. The chances of these two teams trading is slim to none.

I’m not saying I agree with that logic necessarily, but based on past experiences, there’s about a one percent chance a trade happens. It’s rumorville time right now, so it’s no surprise that we have to talk about this leading up to the trade deadline.

There’s a solid chance the Isles do make a move but it won’t be with the Blue Shirts.
