The Fourth Period came up with a list of the top-30 players likely to be traded. Coming in at number seven was New York Islanders d-man Nick Leddy.

Over the past two years, the New York Islanders have seen their best defenseman regress. Nick Leddy, someone you could pencil in for 40 points and solid defensive play has done anything but that since December 2017.

In 2017-2018, Leddy started strong in October and November and then fell off a cliff. He finished the season a -42, which was the worst in the league by eight goals. Going into this year there was debate as to who was the number one defenseman, Nick Leddy or Ryan Pulock.

Well, after this year it’s pretty obvious that Pulock is that guy. After two poor seasons, it’s no surprise that The Fourth Period has Nick Leddy on their top-30 most likely to be traded list.

"The Islanders took calls on Leddy during the season, but held on to him. It’s believed GM Lou Lamoriello will explore his options this summer, as a move might be mutually beneficial for both parties."

With the Islanders depth in the pipeline on d, it would probably be wise for the Islanders to move on from Leddy. He can be used in a trade to help upgrade the top-six, perhaps to Toronto or Edmonton who have forwards to spare but need help on the blue line.

Devon Toews’ emergence is what is making this possible. At this point, he’s a younger and better version of what Nick Leddy is. It’s really not all too surprising that Nick Leddy’s name keeps getting brought up.
