The New York Islanders are lucky to have one of the best coaching situations in the league while coaches continue to drop like flies.

Oh, your coach doesn’t have multiple Jack Adams and a Stanley Cup ring? Can’t relate. The New York Islanders are beyond lucky, as Isles fans are well aware, to have Barry Trotz behind the bench.

The coaching casualties continued with the Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks both firing their coaches. After years and years of inept coaching, it’s beyond satisfying to have a good coaching situation.

How Jack Capuano kept a job for six and a half seasons is still crazy to me. For about three straight years fans wanted Capuano out, and finally, after a tough start in 2016-2017 he got the boot.

Doug Weight followed with a strong finish in 2016-2017 but followed that up with one of the worst coaching performances we’ve seen in recent memory in 2017-2018. The Isles went out and got the best coach available, who was coming off a Stanley Cup.

Trotz hasn’t had a team under .500 since the lockout shortened 2012-2013 season, the last time he was under .500 in a full season was 2002-2003. His teams have also made the playoffs in 12 of the last 15 seasons. That’s stability.

He’s well on his way to making it 13 of 16 and you can’t make the argument that it’s the teams around him. Last year’s Islanders roster had no business being a 100 point team, and this year they look even better,

It’s the Trotz system that players buy into that makes him special. In Barry we trust, and please God never leave us.
