After scoring to go up 4-1, Devon Toews celebrated with the Evgeni Kuznetsov celebration. The Islanders then proceeded to allow five straight goals.
If you’re going to be brash you better back it up. On Saturday, the New York Islanders didn’t back it up. Devon Toews scored giving the Islanders a three-goal lead and seemingly putting the game on ice against the Capitals.
On Toews celebration, he flapped his arms like what Evgeni Kuznetsov does after scoring a goal. Clearly, Toews was mocking Kuznetsov.
I’m not someone who says that you can’t celebrate or have fun but if you’re going to do something like that, you better win the damn game. The Capitals came storming back scoring five goals in the third period to win 6-4.
Barry Trotz obviously wasn’t happy after that one saying that the team has individual mindsets right now. Toews poked the bear and woke up the best team in the league after the Isles had them dead to rights.
Toews hasn’t spoken to Barry Trotz according to Arthur Staple but it seems like the loss on Saturday was punishment enough. I’ll bet you don’t see Toews do that celebration ever again.
