Brock Nelson’s interview with Shannon Hogan after the NY Islanders’ 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets was a bittersweet moment. Named first star of the game, Nelson was holding back tears after what may be his last game with the only organization he’s ever known, with the Islanders being off until Saturday - the day after the trade deadline.

The Isles’ victory over Winnipeg came on a day when all teams ahead of them in the standings lost, leaving the Isles three points out of a Wild Card spot.

While there is a chance Lamoriello decides to roll with this lineup and make a late-season push toward the playoffs, it would be organizational malpractice to allow Kyle Palmieri and Nelson to walk in free agency without receiving any assets in return.

Moving the two, primarily Nelson, would allow the franchise to rebuild their prospect, or acquire assets for future deals.

While the Isles should be recruiting a first-round pick in exchange for Nelson’s services, they’ll also be targeting prospects. Here are three prospects the Islanders could be targeting in a potential trade.
