Following the Lou Lamoriello era, we saw the return of the NY Islanders' development camp last season, which was a great success for the organization and the fans. Fans packed out Northwell Ice Center to get their first glimpse of Matthew Schaefer, and will likely do the same this summer, with development camp beginning tomorrow.

According to Darche, all five players drafted at the 2026 NHL Draft will be in attendance, including Malte Gustafsson. Additionally, we'll see Ryan Healey, the player acquired last night from the Minnesota Wild, and Benjamin Brunelle, the 21-year-old left winger who spent last season with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL.

All new prospects will be at development camp

Darche also mentioned in his post-draft interview that the organization was targeting a goaltender with one of their five picks, and though they didn't ultimately select one, they'll have some netminders in attendance throughout camp.

"We were looking at goalies, too. None quite fell in our picks," Darche said. "But you'll see next week a couple of invites at camp that are in the same ballpark as guys that were drafted late."

Aside from the players just drafted, the top Islanders prospects should be on the ice as well, including OHL Defenseman of the year and 17th overall pick in 2025, Kashawn Aitcheson, and 2025 16th overall pick Victor Eklund, who made his NHL debut in game 82 this season, recording his first career assist on Bo Horvat's 300th career goal.

The Islanders will close camp with an inter-squad scrimmage and will play two rookie camp scrimmages before the preseason gets underway against the NJ Devils prospects.
