While all eyes on the NY Islanders have been focused on the organization’s search for a new General Manager and the first overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, Bo Horvat and Noah Dobson have been representing Canada at the World Championships in Sweden and Denmark.
Today, some troubling news came along, as the Islanders announced that Horvat will miss the remainder of the tournament.
Horvat injured playing for Canada
“Bo Horvat sustained a lower-body injury at the World Championships playing for Hockey Canada,” according to the Islanders X account. “He will return to Long Island to see our team doctors.”
Horvat’s last appearance was yesterday against Finland, where the Finns upset Canada 2-1 in a shootout. There was nothing of significance indicating an injury from Horvat, but the Isles center played just 11:28, after totaling 19:59 of ice-time in Canada’s previous game against Slovakia.
Horvat has been one of Canada’s most valuable players through the group stages, sitting second in goals for Canada with four, tied with Sidney Crosby and only trailing Nathan MacKinnon, while adding four assists through six games.
In a season where every Islanders player seemed to suffer a significant injury, Horvat remained healthy all season, missing just one game. The 30-year-old led the team in points this season with 57 points (28 G, 29 A), trailing Anders Lee by one goal for the team lead.
The hope is that the decision to return Horvat to Long Island was made out of an abundance of caution and is nothing long-term, which would certainly put a damper on what is best up to be an exciting summer.
Horvat will be replaced by one of this year's top prospects, Porter Martone.
