Brock Nelson has been on the mind of NY Islanders fans recently, whether because of his participation in 4 Nations Face-Off or speculation surrounding his future with the only organization he's ever known.
Nelson spoke today while wearing Team USA's colors, but didn't exactly give the most encouraging sign that he'd be remaining with the Islanders, despite rumors of a three-year contract that was offered to the Warroad, MN native.
Nelson speaks on his future
“I want what’s best for me, my family and team and everything,” said Nelson. “There’s a lot of factors that go into it. I know everybody kind of wants an answer right now. That’s not how the world works. You don’t always get what you want.
“Everything will sort itself out. Lou's a great guy. I love playing for him. He’s a great guy. He’s given me a great opportunity the last seven years. He’s an influential guy in hockey in general. My agent has a great relationship with him and communicates with him and I know everything will kinda sort itself out.”
Lou Lamoriello has an important decision regarding Nelson's future with less than a month to make a final determination.
The Islanders cannot afford to let Nelson walk for nothing in the summer. The organization has been stung by the likes of John Tavares and needs to recoup assets if Nelson plans to play elsewhere next summer.
Lamoriello is not one to sell, and with the Islanders back in the thick of the playoff race, he may take it to the final few hours to determine what he'll do with one of the most desired trade targets this season.
