Entering the 2024 NHL Draft, Cole Eiserman dropped to the NY Islanders at 20th overall as the biggest knock on him was his lack of a ‘B’ game. But one thing that nobody could question was his goal-scoring ability.
The greatest goal-scorer in the history of the USNTDP, Eiserman made his World Junior Championship debut while amid a stellar freshman campaign at Boston University, where he’s scored nine goals and six assists through 16 games.
Eiserman’s ice time has been limited, but he’s made the most of his opportunities whenever the opportunity hasn’t presented itself to unload his powerful shot - something his teammates have taken notice of.
Eiserman's teammates have been in awe
“Kid’s a goal scorer,” said Team USA Ryan Leonard. “The puck’s on his stick inside the blue line and you’ve got to be cautious. He can shoot from anywhere and he can score from anywhere.”
Eiserman began the tournament on the second line alongside Islanders prospect Danny Nelson and Trevor Connelly (VGK). The trio didn’t last long together, but Eiserman sure left his mark.
“I mean, I’ve never seen a kid’s shot or one-timer so hard,” Connelly said. “Like, it’s nuts. Even in practice, like seeing him shoot the puck I’m like, I’m blown away every time I see it.”
Luckily for Leonard and Connelly, they don’t have to face Eiserman’s shot at any time. Even though they play for the same team, Team USA’s netminder Trey Augustine has had to stand between the pipes in practice in front of Eiserman’s shot.
“It’s f****** tough to stop,” Augustine said to describe Eiserman’s shot. “I think that’s the best way to put it. He just rips it hard.”
Eiserman will return to BU with a gold medal around his neck as he and the Terriers continue their push towards the NCAA Tournament with Islanders fans hoping to see him in blue and orange soon.
