The NY Islanders can't seem to catch a break. Looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season, Ilya Sorokin is coming off his second shutout when the Isles beat the Vegas Golden Knights, the NHL's top team, 4-0 on Thursday night. But tonight, between the pipes for the organization's first trip to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Hockey Club, Marcus Hogberg will get the start between the pipes as Sorokin is sick.

According to Arthur Gross of Newsday, the team was made aware Sorokin wasn't feeling well yesterday. Bridgeport Islanders goalie Jakub Skarek didn't dress for the B-Isles game last night, and is on his way to Utah to assume the backup role, recalled on an emergency basis.

Hogberg will get the start for Sorokin who is sick

This will be Hogberg's second start of the season, also making two appearances in relief. His last appearance was just before New Year's and was his first start in the NHL since 2021 with the Ottawa Senators.

Hogberg faced 44 shots, turning aside 41 of them in a 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Brought back to the NHL by Lou Lamoriello for situations like this, Hogberg has done all that has been asked of him in each appearance he's made.

Skarek has made 17 appearances this season in Bridgeport, going 4-10-1 with a 3.29 GAA and .891 SV%. The starter the last few seasons in Bridgeport, Skarek lost his role when the Islanders signed Hogberg but regained the role when Hogberg was recalled due to the absence of Semyonn Varlamov.
