Former and Future Isles in Sochi

Other soon-to-be Isles represented their respective countries at these Olympics as well. Former captain Mark Streit played for the Swiss team, he wore an "A" and had one assist in four games. Two players who would join the Islanders prior to the 2014-15 season played for their nations. One is goaltender Jaroslav Halak, he went 0-2-0 with a .857 save percentage and a 5.11 goals against average while playing for Slovakia. The other is Russian forward Nikolai Kulemin, he had zero points in the five games he appeared in for his country.

Zach Parise, one of the all-time greats in USA hockey history, represented the stars and stripes. He finished the tournament with one goal in six games, while donning the "C" for Team USA. While Uncle Leo, Leo Komarov, played for his nation of Finland. Where he put up zero points in six games and wore an "A." Parise and the USA took on Komarov and Finland, in the bronze medal game. Where Finland ended up winning 5-0.

Current Islander Ondrej Palat played for Czechia during these Olympics, as he is also doing currently in Milan-Cortina. He was held pointless in four games.

It is crazy that these games were a whopping 12 years ago. Which means that it has been 12 years since NHL players were allowed to play in the Olympics. Now that the true superstars from around the world are back being able to represent their countries at the Olympics, the hockey tournament has become entertaining to watch again.

Both Bo Horvat and Ondrej Palat continue their mission for gold in Italy as Czechia takes on Denmark at 10:40am on Tuesday. If Palat and the Czechs win, they advance to play against Horvat and Team Canada in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
