Though the NY Islanders' season ended earlier than the organization had hoped, some players are beginning their summer plans, while others are staying close to the game.
Mat Barzal and Tony DeAngelo, two of the most important pieces in the Islanders' lineup this season, have teamed up and turned their attention to coaching, as the two are behind the bench with the Summit Hockey U15 hockey team at the Toronto Exposure Cup.
The Toronto Exposure Cup, in its second year of existence, is an annual tournament hosting some of the best youth hockey programs across the United States and Canada.
Summit Hockey, which lists DeAngelo as the head coach and Barzal as an assistant, is a team composed of players hailing from across the US, including California, Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania, as well as a Calgary native, and, of course, Long Island.

Through three games, Summit Hockey, with two Islanders running the show, is 4-0, scoring 22 goals and allowing only six.
In the U15 division, 22 teams are competing, and with their undefeated record, Summit Hockey will advance to the knockout stages of the tournament.
Though the 2025-26 season ended in disappointment, Barzal finished with one of the best statistical seasons of his career, registering 19 goals and 53 assists.
DeAngelo, who got off to a rocky start after signing a one-year deal with the Islanders in the off-season, became one of the most vital pieces of the Isles' blue line, serving as a second offensive-minded defenseman alongside Matthew Schaefer. Come July 1, he'll be a UFA once again, and with the Islanders' lack of depth on the right side of defense, he could be an indispensable piece.
