The New York Islanders are taking the headlines during a normally quiet NHL news week in July. The NHL Draft is complete, and the top free agent prizes have been taken off the shelf. Mathieu Darche moved quickly on his needs by signing goalie Vitek Vanecek and forward Matias Maccelli.
Although some useful free agents are still available, Darche is not expected to dive into any expensive or long-term contracts. News from the Islanders is welcome as the summer continues.
The New York Islanders have announced the first-of-its-kind NHL fan contest to design the next third jersey for the 2027-28 NHL season. Fans will have till July 24th to submit their design for the next jersey. A team committee will then review and select five finalists. The public will then vote on the final five.
The fans are very critical of every move made by the franchise and now will have a chance to make your opinion count! Didn't like the Stadium jerseys? Hated both black alternatives? Give it your best shot for a chance to create the future third jersey.
The popularity of the fisherman has taken off despite older fans like myself not wanting much to do with it. I personally liked the most recent third jerseys, but I can admit they were a little too simple.
I have fond memories of the orange jerseys because of the team and players like Michael Peca and Dave Scatchard. I hoped that the recent reverse retro brand would make a version of them.
I, for one, will be submitting my jersey design and hope everyone has fun with this contest. Feel free to share your designs with us!
