In their final home game before the all-star break, the Bridgeport Islanders were trounced 9-2 by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Bridgeport’s home record dropped to a dreadful 2-16-0-2 in defeat. It’s just the fourth time the Bridgeport Islanders have allowed nine goals in franchise history. It’s the second time in a week that Bridgeport has surrendered seven+ goals in a game.

In the first, the Phantoms took an early lead courtesy of forward Samu Tuomaala. The goal came off of a deflection in front of Islanders goaltender Hunter Miska that the netminder never had a chance on.

Despite some good chances generated by Bridgeport forwards Eetu Liukas and Liam Foudy, the Islanders’ defensive struggles ruled the period. At 12:10, Lehigh-Valley doubled their lead on a terrible Miska turnover.

Three minutes later, the lead grew to three courtesy of Phantoms forward Zayde Wisdom. Wisdom, while shorthanded, pursued Bridgeport Islanders forward Justin Gill, forced him into a turnover, then scored on the breakaway.

After the period, the Islanders were booed off the ice at Total Mortgage Arena. They trailed 3-0 but outshot the Phantoms 8-7. Overall, the Islanders didn’t play terribly, but their mistakes were critical, and they wound up in the back of their net. That wouldn't last long.
