A little after the trade deadline, the NY Islanders announced that they traded defenseman Dennis Cholowski to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for forward Adam Beckman. The deal makes sense for both parties. The Islanders hope to add scoring to a terrible Bridgeport Islanders team, and the Devils add much-needed defensive depth following the injury to Dougie Hamilton.

Isles trade Cholowski to Devils
It may not have been the move many fans were hoping to be announced after the 3 pm deadline, but it helps the team down in Bridgeport.
Beckman is a former third-round pick of the Minnesota Wild. He has recorded 141 points across 224 career AHL games. He's also posted three points across 23 NHL games, all with the Wild.
He is signed to a one year, $775k contract that will expire following the season. Beckman will be a restricted free agent, arbitration eligible.
Beckman, 23, instantly becomes one of Bridgeport's best forwards. His 33 points rank fourth among all Islanders skaters behind only Chris Terry, Brian Pinho, and Liam Foudy. Beckman will likely slide into Bridgeport's second line, as Terry currently occupies Bridgeport's first-line winger role.

3-1, not Comets.
Adam Beckman, maybe: Be a shame if you turned that puck over.

Regardless, the move makes a ton of sense for the Islanders
Since adding Tony DeAngelo, Adam Boqvist, and Scott Perunovich a few weeks ago, the Islanders have had a logjam in their defensive corps. Somebody had to go, and the Islanders decided upon Cholowski as the odd man out. They'll also get scoring help for their fledgling minor league team. Bridgeport ranks bottom-three in the AHL in goal scoring with only 145 through 55 games this season.
