After being selected by the NY Islanders 17th overall in this summer's NHL Draft, Kashawn Aitcheson has had a dream start to his OHL season as Captain of the Barrie Colts.

Second in the league in goals with 15 and leading all defensemen in points with 24 through 19 games, Aitcheson has been a force on the ice, whether it be through his offensive play or bone-crushing hits.

But after this weekend, the Isles prospect is in some hot water with the OHL, following an incident after the final whistle with the Soo Greyhounds.

Following the Greyhounds' shootout winner, Soo forward and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Marco Mignosa waved at the Barrie bench as his teammates piled onto the ice, essentially telling Aitcheson and the Colts to, "Go home."

The Colts didn't take too kindly to the gesture, looking to engage in some extracurriculars before leaving the ice.

If things had ended there, there'd be no issue. But as the officials got both teams off the ice, the Soo fans were giving it to the Colts. Before heading down the tunnel to the locker room, Aitcheson dumped a water bottle on a Soo fan.

It’s not clear exactly what, if anything, was directed at Aitcheson. And while there’s no reason for adults to be acting in such a manner towards junior hockey players, Aitcheson, a leader on this team, was out of line for his reaction.

The OHL officially addressed the situation today, handing out a two-game suspension for interacting with spectators.

Hopefully, the Islanders’ prospect can use this as a learning experience before continuing on his phenomenal season, and hopefully pushing for a spot on Canada’s WJC roster.
