Last night, the Barrie Colts completed its comeback in the OHL Eastern Conference Finals, winning Game 7 after trailing the series 3-1. NY Islanders' prospect Kashwan Aitcheson was phenomenal in the series, recording 10 points (3 G, 7 A) and the game-winning goal in Game 7.
The Colts advancing to the OHL Finals to take on the Kitchener Rangers should be the focus, but a bizarre postgame press conference with Aitcheson and Barrie Head Coach Dylan Smoskowitz has surpassed the comeback.
Aitcheson in the middle of strange press conference
While fielding questions from reporters, both Aitcheson and Smoskowitz responded with only, "No one cares, work harder," leaving the stage after about one minute.

According to Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff, Aitcheson and Smoskowitz's responses were in reaction to not being able to bring out more players with them during the press conference, being told there wasn't enough space on the stage, and deciding to answer each question with their team's motto for the season.
Today, Aitcheson and Smoskowitz have been receiving backlash, calling their antics immature. While it may not have been the best look for either, it's hard to fault Aitcheson in this situation. There's nobility in wanting to share the praise with your teammates, as that's what hockey players do. But it's hard to imagine a 19-year-old kid in Aitcheson leading the charge in this, and as captain, he was likely following the lead of his head coach.
The OHL Finals will begin tomorrow, as Kitchener hosts Barrie in Game 1. Aitcheson signed his ELC with the Islanders in March and will turn professional starting next season.
