With all the hype surrounding Cole Eiserman and Danny Nelson this season, Quinn Finley has arguably had the most impressive season among all NY Islanders prospects and is now being recognized for his performance.
Finley has been nominated for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award fan vote along with 96 other NCAA players, voted on by Division I coaches.
Quinn Finley recognized as one of the nations top players
The Hobey Baker Award is given annually to the best player in college hockey, similar to the Heisman Trophy given to the best player in college football.
The fan vote will count for a percentage of the final votes, which runs from now until March 9. The field will then be reduced to a top ten, where fans will be given an opportunity to cast their ballot again. Three finalists will then be announced with the most prestigious award in college hockey being presented on April 11, during the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in St. Louis, Missouri.
Finley should be considered among the favorites for the award at this point, sitting second in NCAA scoring (33 points), behind Isaac Howard (Tampa Bay Lightning) of Michigan State, and tied with Howard in goals with 18.
Howard and Finley appear to be the front runners, but Finley’s Wisconsin Badgers sit in fifth place in the Big 10, while Howard’s Spartans are ranked second in the nation.
Finley was drafted by the Islanders in the third round (78) of the 2022 NHL Draft and has jolted up the team's prospect rankings over the last year. With his impressive season, there’s hope that Finley can join the Islanders next season, but he may opt for another season in college to further his development.
