The New York Islanders lates victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs, saw the Isles loose two forwards in the first period on Saturday night in Canada. Cal Ritchie left after just one shift with what has been listed as a "lower body injury". It isn't clear from the video replay of the severity of Ritchie's injury, so a timeline wasn't readily available. The injury to Matias Maccelli appears to be more severe due to the awkwardness of how he fell on his right leg. Right now, it appears that Maccelli may be out approximately 4-6 weeks. With the injuries to the Islanders forward group, Head Coach Peter DeBoer will call into play Kyle MacLean for his first action of the season, along with recalled RW Mitchell Chaffee from Hamilton of the AHL.

Mitchell Chaffee, who signed a one-year contract over the summer, had a really good training camp accordingly to DeBoer and is slated to join the fourth line with LW Kyle MacLean and C Casey Cizikas. “[He] just worked hard, good detail to his game, really professional,” DeBoer said. “What I liked best about him was he was disappointed when he went down, as he should have been, because he had a good camp. But the way he handled it, he went down had a hat trick in their opener. That's a great lesson on how to handle adversity and control what you can control and he did, and as a result, he's right back up here again.” Chaffee, the former captain at UMASS and teammate with Islanders defenseman Matthew Kessel from college, looks to be a good fit with his Isles linemates. The 6'1", 197 lbs. winger is second on the Hamilton Hammers with four goals and two assists for six points in six AHL games this season. Last year, Chaffee scored 57 points (24G/33A) with the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League. The Islanders also placed D Alexander Romanov on IR as he is expected to miss the next six-eight months with a torn MCL.
