Last week, the New York Islanders played three games in total. On Monday, the Islanders lost in a close game to the Colorado Avalanche by a score of five to four. On Thursday, the team played the Columbus Blue Jackets and had an explosion on offense winning the game six to zero.
Lastly, on Friday, the team played the Winnipeg Jets, where once again the offense remained hot and was able to pick up the win, by a score of five to two. A lot of the players played really well last week, making this list harder than anticipated. These are the top three players who showed up and showed out.
Honorable Mention
Last week, Ilya Sorokin had himself a stellar performance in the net on Thursday. Although only playing once in the week, Sorokin shut out the Columbus Blue Jackets. In the game, Sorokin picked up 25 saves on 25 attempts giving him a 1.000 SV%.
With that game, Sorokin continued on what is already a hot season for him. Sorokin has all but taken over the starting position. Sorokin is now 20-12-7 on the season with a .925 SV%. He has been playing much better than his counterpart and is showing a ton of promise in his young career.
3. Noah Dobson
Noah Dobson continues to do extremely well in his young, defensive career. Last week, Dobson picked up a total of four assists. He also had at least one point in all three games that were played. Dobson also continued to shine on defense.
He had anywhere from 22 to 27 shifts on defense throughout the week. Dobson also had a total of 11 shots, showing that he doesn't shy away from shooting the puck when he has to. Dobson continues to be one of the better young stars on the team and the future is indeed bright for the 22-year-old defensemen.
2. Anthony Beauvillier
The second-best player of the week was Anthony Beauvillier. Beauvillier has had a relatively quiet season. However, last week he showed himself to be a very valuable member of the team. On the week, Beauvillier picked up six assists.
Most impressively, he had a three-point game on March 10th, against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Beauvillier did a great job of setting up his teammates to get goals in every game last week. On the year, Beauvillier has nine goals and 18 assists for a total of 27 points.
1. Anders Lee
Was there really any other option? The captain struck again, and again, and again. Anders Lee had arguably one of his best weeks last week for the Islanders this season. Lee also obtained his first career hat trick on March 10th against Columbus.
Lee picked up six goals last week and one assist as well. Lee was a force on the Islanders offense and teams had a tough time shutting him down. On the season, Lee has 21 goals and seven assists for a total of 28 points.
Overall, the Islanders had a good week from 3/6 to 3/12. Let's hope that rolls over into this week and they can continue to stay hot and make a run at the playoffs. If the Islanders get hot at just the right time, which seems likely, then who knows what may be in store.
