Round 2
Like Eklund and Aitcheson, second-round pick No.42 Daniil Prokhorov is an aggressive and physical forward. The 6'6" Russian forward spent last season in the MHL with MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg, recording 20 goals and 27 points in 47 games.
Prokhorov needs time to develop before making the jump to the NHL or AHL level. Unlike an undersized Eklund, Prokhorov is a tall, strong winger who loves to spend time in the dirty areas around the net.
With time and proper development, Prokhorov could be a great bottom-six winger for the Islanders. When the team returns to the playoffs, a guy like Prokhorov is exactly who you want on your squad.
Round 3
With pick No.74 in round 3, the Islanders selected Kitchener Rangers forward Luca Romano. The center recorded 25 goals and 51 points in 67 regular-season games. During the OHL Playoffs, Romano scored 6 goals and 11 points in 16 games.
Romano is another undersized forward, but the value the Islanders picked him at was too good to pass on. Romano was a projected second-round selection, but fell to the Islanders in the third. He is another player who needs time to develop and grow, but his skating ability and smart decisions give him a potential NHL career.
