The hits keep coming for the NY Islanders are the injury list continues to grow.

Without Anthony Duclair already for a few more weeks and Mat Barzal's timetable unknown at this time, two defensemen could join the forwards on the injury list.

Last night in the Islanders' 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres, Alexander Romanov, Adam Pelech, and Mike Reilly all went down the tunnel to the locker room after taking a knock on the ice.

Pelech and Reilly go down

Romanov was the first of the group, slamming his stick in frustration, appearing to pick up another knock in the first game back after missing three games of his own. A few minutes later, Adam Pelech took a puck off the face-off a deflected shot. Lastly, and the most scary of the three, Mike Reilly's head slammed against the ice after taking a hit from Jordan Greenway. Reilly lay motionless as a stretcher was brought out, but soon made it to his feet and was talking as his teammates helped him off the ice.

After it appeared the Islanders would be playing the second half of the game with three defensemen, Romanov emerged from the tunnel.

"I can't just leave my team with three D," Romanov said after the game. "I can't do that. I watched in medical room and saw two guys were hurt. I can't just leave them."

Pelech and Reilly didn't return as the four remaining defensemen all played over 20 minutes on the night.

Reilly is expected to miss some time, but Pelech and Romanov's status remains unknown. With a date against the NY Rangers coming up on Sunday, the Islanders would love to have all hands on deck, but it appears a call-up from Bridgeport may be necessary.
