Does anybody know what goaltender interference is? It's not just an issue for the NY Islanders, but it seems to be across the league with little consistency in goaltender interference calls.
The Isles were on the right side of a review in the second period, as an Anders Lee goal was upheld after a challenge from Columbus Blue Jackets Head Coach, Dean Evason. But with just seconds remaining in the third period in a 3-3 game, referee Wes McCauley waived off a Kyle Palmieri goal that would have all but sealed two points for the Islanders. After the game, Palmieri called the decision "f****** embarrassing."
The NY Islanders have 2 points stolen
"He (McCauley) said there was contact initiated in the crease and I guess the goalie needs five minutes to get reset and ready for the shot," Palmieri said. "It looked like he couldn’t wait to wave it off.”
The third period wasn't a strong one for the Isles, as the Blue Jackets pinned the puck deep in the Islanders' zone for most of the period. Looking lucky to reach OT, the Isles had some of their best possession in the waning moments, as Alexander Romanov sent a puck towards the net that was deflected across the crease, and into the far side of the net.

Palmieri lightly brushed netminder Elvis Merzlikins but didn't appear to ever enter the crease, yet the goal was waved off emphatically by McCauley.
“It’s just really getting frustrating when we're pushing for a playoff spot," said Bo Horvat, who had some choice words for McCauley after the decision. "It’s obviously a game-winning goal late in the hockey game, and to me, it's just unacceptable.”
After McCauley's decision, the situation room in Toronto took a closer look at the goal but elected to uphold the call on the ice.
After seeing the replay, to most, it appeared obvious that the call would be overturned and a goal would be awarded to the Islanders. But Toronto didn't see it that way. “If Toronto is afraid to overturn calls made by their referee, we don't need Toronto,” said Patrick Roy.
The Islanders remain two games out of a Wild Card spot and will host the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday, in a game they'll need to take two points.
