After the NY Islanders' three-game win streak, some of the trade talk among the fanbase seemed to quell, but after the team's lackluster performance in a 2-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, the trade talk is back on.

Despite their successful road trip, the Islanders sit seven points out of playoff position and 15th of 16 teams in the Eastern Conference. Though it's possible to make up seven points in the second half of the season, the Isles would have to leapfrog seven teams to get to the second Wild Card spot. On top of that, this team has shown little signs that they're capable of such a feat, meaning that it may be best to become sellers at the trade deadline.

Could the Maple Leafs and Islanders become trade partners?

One team that could potentially benefit if Lou Lamoriello, or whoever is in charge, decides to sell, is the Toronto Maple Leafs.

There is no love lost between Islanders fans and the Maple Leafs after John Tavares high-tailed it off Long Island for Toronto, but assets obtained from the Leafs could help retool this current team, and someone like Brock Nelson would fetch a pretty penny at the deadline.

The Maple Leafs already have Tavares and Auston Matthews down the middle, but Tavares has spent some time on the wing with the Leafs, and could potentially play alongside his old teammate on the second line with William Nylander.
