The Upshot: NY Islanders offensive woes continue, falling to Ducks 3-1
The NY Islanders lack of goal scoring coniues against the Ducks
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was another frustrating night at UBS Arena, as the NY Islanders fell to the Anaheim Ducks 3-1. The Isles dominated for much of the game, outshooting the Ducks 41-22, but they were unable to beat Lukas Dostal outside a 5-on-3 power play. The Islanders penalty kill will be a talking point again, as they allowed two while a man down.
WHAT WENT RIGHT
Ilya Sorokin was phenomenal once again, not allowing a goal at 5-on-5. He may have made what was his best save of the year, getting a toe on what looked to be a gaping net for Brock Mcginn, who was ready to celebrate his second goal of the season. The second line continued to look the best of all four, but couldn't get one past Dostal.
WHAT WENT WRONG
Shooting is becoming a massive issue with this team, shooting at 7.8% entering the night. Dostal has been off to a hot start this season, but he didn't need to make any spectacular saves of his 40 on the night.
The defense is struggling to get involved offensively, adding little support to their forwards, who seem to find the opposition's logo on the goalie's sweater each time they shoot the puck.
STATS OF THE GAME
Sorokin has allowed just five goals at 5-on5 this season according to Natural Stat Trick, as he's off to one of the best starts of his career.
Mat Barzal recorded his second goal of the season, and first with a goalie between the pipes. He's yet to score an even-strength goal.
SOCIAL MEDIA MOMENT OF THE GAME
Mat Barzal showed some obvious frustartion in the locker room after the loss.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Isles are back at it again tomorrow, heading on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm.
