You know it has to be a big story when hockey is discussed over the New York radio airwaves.

Though it wasn’t discussed in depth, Evan Roberts, host of the Evan & Tiki show on WFAN, opened up the show stating that he had to get something off his chest before moving on to the upcoming start of baseball season.

Evan Roberts sounds off on officials

“The New York Islanders got screwed last night,” Roberts said. “We all know it. That’s what happened. They got hosed out of a point. The officials suck, Toronto sucks, the Islanders got screwed, now let’s move on.”

Roberts is of course talking about the goaltender interference call against Kyle Palmieri with only seconds remaining in last night's OT loss, which saw the game-winning goal waved off.

It seems regardless of which team you root for, nearly everyone agrees that the officials made the wrong call. Well, everyone except the officials.

Even Aaron Portzline, Blue Jackets beat writer for The Athletic, stated he believed “CBJ got a huge break when the Isles goal was overturned late in regulation Monday.”

The NHL further explained the decision to go with the call on the ice and not allow Palmieri’s goal to count. “Video review supported the Referees’ call on the ice that New York’s Kyle Palmieri impaired Elvis Merzlikins ability to play his position in the crease prior to the goal.

The Isles can remain a point out of the final Wild Card spot come their next game on Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks if the St. Louis Blue can beat the Montreal Canadiens in regulation tonight.
