The New York Islanders seem to be in the mix for Matt Duchene. Although the question remains is the asking price too high for the Isles?

Dominik of Lighthouse Hockey broke down his feelings on the possibility of a Matt Duchene trade. Based on asking prices from Colorado he fears it’s too high. I disagree with him.

This isn’t a call out piece, or me bashing Dominik as a writer. This is two people analyzing a situation and gathering two different conclusions. I get the fear of possibly having to move Mathew Barzal, Ryan Pulock and Brock Nelson or any other kind of combination Joe Sakic‘s little heart desires.

It does and can seem like a lot, but the Islanders have to make that move. It gets to a point where enough is enough, this is 10 plus years of a rebuild in motion with one playoff series win to show for.

The Islanders can’t afford to continue to wait and hope for prospects to develop. They’re wasting John Tavares‘ prime years by doing so.

Garth has made just one trade at the deadline involving a former first round pick or premiere prospect and it was the Ryan Smyth trade we talked about two days ago. Garth’s got to go for it one of these years.

Plus with the Islanders contract situations, virtually every forward is signed through next year anyway so it’s not like the Islanders can improve via free agency this offseason. The team must improve via a trade and adding a player like Duchene can do that.

Trading Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock might suck, but sitting around waiting for prospects during JT’s prime years sucks even more.
