Anders Lee is no spring chicken anymore, playing in his 11th season with the NY Islanders at 33 years old. Hovering around the 30-goal and 50-point marks the last two seasons, Lee finished the 2023/24 season with some of the lowest totals of his career.

NY Islanders 2023-24 Report Card: Anders Lee
As a player who's been so important to the Islanders' success, the 2023/24 season was one Lee would soon like to forget.
Early in the season, Lee saw time on the Islanders' top line alongside Mat Barzal and Bo Horvat. Never being the most fleet of foot, it was quickly evident that Lee didn't have the foot speed to keep up with Barzal and Horvat and was soon demoted, finding a home on the third line. His most consistent linemate was JG Pageau and the two began to build chemistry together despite not lighting up the score sheet.
Along with being demoted to the third line, Lee played the entire season on the Islanders' second power play unit, when he was a mainstay on the top unit in previous years. He finished with just five goals on the man advantage, his lowest since 2021-22 when he played only 27 games, still managing three power play goals.
Lee finished the season with 20 goals and 17 assists for a 37-point total, his fewest in a full season since 2015-16. While 37 points out of a third-line player doesn't sound all too bad, the fact that he carries an AAV of $7M hinders the roster.
Lee has two years remaining on his current deal with a 15-team no-trade clause which kicks in next season.
As the team's captain, Lee isn't an easy player to move on from, but if he doesn't improve his play next season, he could become a potential buyout candidate for 2025-26.
